Considering Vaginal Rejuvenation
Vaginal rejuvenation, according to any plastic surgeon, is sometimes sought in order to enhance or improve sexual gratification. However, more and more women are turning to this surgery because they suffer from stress urinary incontinence (involuntary loss of urine with laughing, coughing, sneezing, exercising etc.)
After child birth, women look for a solution to rejuvenate the vagina to enhance their sexual experience. One of the issues is the problem of vaginal relaxation, a condition where the muscles have poor tone, strength, and control. Both the internal and external diameters may have increased. Under these circumstances, the vagina is no longer able to experience the sensual side of sexual gratification.
Vaginal rejuvenation enhances vaginal muscle tone, strength, and control. Sexual gratification is directly related to the amount of frictional forces generated, so tightening and strengthening muscles vaginal muscles increases pleasure for both partners.
During your initial consultation with your plastic surgeon, you should provide all of your medical history and list all medications, vitamins, and herbs you are taking.
Here are some tips that may help you shorten your recovery time and decrease your chances of complications. To improve your surgical experience, your plastic surgeon will advise you to adhere to these guidelines to get ready for your vaginal rejuvenation procedure:
- Do not use Aspirin or medications which contain aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E and other supplements as directed. These might act as blood thinners and cause excessive bruising, bleeding or other complications.
- Stop smoking for at least two weeks before and one week after surgery, as nicotine impairs circulation and healing. (Better still… quit smoking altogether!)
- Limit alcohol consumption for two weeks before and one week after the surgery.
- Drink lots of water in the days leading up to your surgery.
You will experience some bruising, swelling and pain after your procedure. Swelling could remain for up to two to four weeks. Pain medication will be prescribed to control any discomfort, however, if you have severe pain or bleeding, contact us immediately. Apply ice packs to the area off and on for the first 48 hours to minimize swelling. Make sure that you take all medications as prescribed.
You may need to limit your usual activities for the first week. Then for the next two to three weeks, strenuous physical activities should be limited. Avoid jogging, and bouncing activities for up to six weeks. Sex may be resumed in six weeks. Patients have reported that it is worth the wait!
