Chemical Peels – A Summary
The chemical peels specializes in will smooth out wrinkled skin by removing old skin layers that have lost their elasticity. Chemical peels promote cell turnover, remove dead skin, and provide necessary nutrients to the skin, keeping it healthy. Chemical peels minimize fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun-damage, age spots, and freckles. Some chemical peels will even encourage the production of new collagen which give skin structure and elasticity. Chemical peels are a logical step to take before you consider a traditional surgical face lift. Some of these chemical peels are:
- VI Peel
- Obagi Blue Peel
- Hetter Peel
- Modified Phenol Peel
- Biomedic Micropeel
Depending on what level of chemical peel you choose to have (there are three different levels that each vary based on the amount of repair you wish to have done on your face), the outcome of different chemical peels vary in depth and definition.
Light and medium strength peels can cause a mild to strong redness for a period of 2 days to 2 weeks. Deep peels, like the Modified Phenol or Hetter Peel, can have side effects like heart palpitations and/or irregular rhythms due to chemical absorption. For this reason these types of peels are usually completed section by section to reduce the overall exposure to the chemicals in each session. You will be properly pre-screened before any deep chemical peel procedure for cardiovascular problems.
The Modified Phenol or Hetter Peel provides the most impressive results of any chemical peel which you can have at this time. A Modified Phenol Peel can also work on smoker’s lines, deep leather-like lines, sun spots, uneven skin tone and redness. The Hetter Modified Peel reduces the visibility of scars, such as those left from severe acne. It also smooths out the skin around your eyelids, crow’s feet, smoker’s pucker marks around the mouth, and frown lines between the eyes.
